Recovery Has Its Own Colors

Painters in Recovery was founded by William H. Denihan, former Chief Executive Officer of the ADAMHS Board and board member of Future Directions, and Douglas Rothschild, in 2010.

This is a class where the instructor provides step by step instruction for how to paint on canvas using classic techniques. Some concepts that have been explored have been alla prima, chiaroscuro, colored ground, dry brushing, glazing, impasto, monochromatic underpainting, and sgraffito. Lisa Thomas, an art therapist practitioner, leads the group in a themed design which everyone paints together.

Future Directions absorbed the program after the death of Mr. Denihan in 2022 and continues to operate this program in his honor, ensuring continuity of a valued community resource.
